RV Adventure-Day 1

Do I look excited? Well, I am. This is my spot in the RV unless we are driving and then I ride shotgun pressed against my master's knee.

   We left pretty early and I would like to say that the first day was going to be an adventure. However, all we did was walk in freezing wind while new shocks were put on the 'ol RV.
    I was really working up an appetite and was surprised that we stopped at what is commonly referred to as a "roach coach". Man! It was so good, that when my Mr. Master handed me some of his chicken-rice burrito, I bit his finger by mistake. I felt terrible...hung my head for a split second and then decided I was forgiven and would try for more.

We were exhausted by the time the RV was done, so we decided to just go to Whidbey Island. We have Wi-Fi and electricity, but man! The jets are flying so low they make the RV shake! Oh, yeah, we are next to a Navy airbase flying jet fighters. They stop for dinner, don't they??

 

 

Did you worry? No news for a month? Well, this is what happened. My friend, Molly, went to college, you may remember. Her sister, Jessie, got a job. Both were helping me with ideas for my blog. Then, it got pretty quiet here at the  B&B like it does every Fall. I guess I just got lazy, and without my enthusiastic supporters, Molly and Jessie, I just stopped writing. BUT I'M BACK!

I have big news to share. My owners and I are going on the ultimate road trip in an awesome old RV that already smells like me. This is a 3 month trip from Orcas Island to California across the south to Boca Raton, Florida. My owners have been feverishly trying to get ready. Me? I'm waiting to see when my dog food and bones get loaded. Then I can relax. We leave Tuesday and I have a big job ahead of me. I've got the job of sharing our trip through my blog, Innkeeper Talk. I sure wish Molly and Jessie could go with me and give me some inspiration. I guess I'll have to rely on pictures and comments I overhear as we travel like a snail across the good 'ol USA.

Although I have been known to try to sneak into the performing art's center, my pungent dog smell usually gets me noticed and I am escorted out. However, there are some live performances that are not to be missed by all of you.  The Orcas Horns will but on a boisterous show at Orcas Center on October 5th.  They've promised some original material and surprise guests that will entertain and delight!  Horns are a little loud for me, so I am not even attempting to sneak in, but my Masters enjoy live music so they might make an appearance for the show.  I will be watching the Enchanted Forest Cabaret from the back door of Orcas Center sometime between October 10 and October 19.  I think there might be people dressed up as animals, which I find endlessly entertaining.

Hemingway famously penned the line - "If you are lucky enough to have lived on Orcas Island as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Orcas is a moveable feast."  Okay, the Hemingway you know may have written that about Paris, but in the animal world, Orcas Island is the moveable feast to beat. I personally have never read Hemingway, but anyone who writes about a feast, even a moveable feast (which I have no idea what that means except it has to do with food) is OK in my book!

October is an especially delicious time to join the tasting party. For starters, my Masters will lower their rates starting October 1st. If that's not enough to get you to book a room, I don't know what is. For the main course, you have many options. You see, during the whole month of October, we have the 6th Annual ‘Savor San Juans – A Medley of Food, Art & Culture.' This month-long moveable features "wine maker's dinners, harvest festivals, farm events, and specials at some of the finest lodgings and restaurants in the 'gourmet archipelago,'" our cluster of islands. My main course consists of milk bone before dinner, 2 cups of yummy lamb dog food, and then as many more milk bones as I can beg. "Savor Milk Bones" is my special for October.

Today, I am sad. My best friend, the Innkeeper Assistant for our bed and breakfast, went away to college. Molly got accepted to Simpson University and is in Redding, California. It is a great honor and my owner's are happy for her even though they had to do ALL the work yesterday! They kept mumbling, "I wish Molly was here." The good news is that Molly promised to come back  next summer and be the Innkeeper Assistant again. Her sister, Jess, is going to help a little while it is still busy. I like her, but she doesn't let me lick her face with my stinky breath the way Molly did. I'm not going to let Molly forget me. I am going to send her my blog and let her know everything that I am doing. Well, almost everything. Even a dog has secrets.

My masters got to go on a very special trip this week.  They told me all about it.  They went out with Shearwater Kayak Tours!  They went on the moonlight tour and it was so beautiful!  I'm so jealous, I wish that I could have gone with them!  They even saw seals!  I don't know what I would have thought about that, maybe I would want to chase them!

Shearwater has a lot of fun tours.  They have daytime, sunset and moonlight 3-hour tours, as well as a longer day trip.

There are a lot of exciting things happening on Orcas Island!  The Chamber Music Festival is August 9th to the 24th, featuring many talented musicians.  Chris Peacock, a wonderful pianist, plays every Monday through Saturday from 4 to 5 at Rosario.  I hope that my masters will go to some of these events so that I can listen from the car! There is also an Orcas Island Artists' Studio Tour, where you can visit the studios of 31 local artists!  The Studio Tour takes place Friday, August 16th to Sunday, August 18, 11 am to 5 pm each day.  I hope that you will have the opportunity to attend some of these exciting events!
